The Winery Befort was founded in 1969 by winemaker and cellar master Hans Befort and his wife Maria Befort in today’s independent form.
The wine-making tradition of the Befort family in Nittel dates back to 1756.
At that time, the lands of the Nittel districts still belong to the Grand Duchy of Lorraine (1766 to France, 1815 to Prussia, and finally to the FRG).
It was only when the company was founded in 1969 by Maria and Hans Befort that the wines were directly marketed.
The seventies were dominated by the most prestigious predicates.
Thus, in 1975, we also won the first “Grand Prix of DLG” at the Obermosel for a 75 core selection.
In 1980, we began with the sparkling wine production of the Méthode Champenoise and as early as 1982 we achieved here as the first winery of the Obermosel a “Grand Prize of the DLG” for an Elbling sparkling wine.
